There’s a certain magic in a chaotic family photo session. Sometimes when parents see their kids acting goofy during a photo shoot they try to discourage it, but I always feel that that wildness is a better reflection of who the kids really were at that age, and therefore better for preserving the real family memories from this special time in life. On this particular day, the weather was perfect – a gentle breeze rustled the tall, golden grasses, and the evening light bathed us all in a warm glow.

The family I had the honor of photographing was a lively bunch. With seven kids under the age of ten and parents and grandparents who were as enthusiastic as their children, the session was bound to be anything but dull. From the moment we arrived at Uplands Park, the kids were off and running and the parents were laughing as they tried to keep up.
As a candid family photographer, my goal was to capture these authentic moments – the unposed, genuine interactions that tell the story of a playful day in the park. And boy, did this family give me plenty to work with!
