As a Victoria Maternity Photographer, one of the most rewarding parts of my job is making mothers-to-be feel beautiful and celebrated. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a maternity session at Uplands Park —a magical location in the Fall, with its earthy tones, textured foliage, and moody ambiance.

This session is also an example of impeccable wardrobe choices. By wearing light, neutral tones, the couple created a perfect contrast against the darker, autumnal surroundings of the park. The soft beige and white hues of their outfits drew attention to them as the focal point of every image.

Why Uplands Park is a Perfect Spot

Uplands Park offers an abundance of picturesque backdrops, from sprawling meadows to quiet wooded areas. In the fall, the park transforms into a canvas of deep greens, burnt oranges, and rustic browns. These colors enhance the warmth and emotion of maternity photos, making each shot feel intimate and grounded in nature.

Tips for Timing Your Maternity Photos

If you’re planning your own maternity shoot, first know that timing is everything! I always recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage:

  • Your belly will be round and prominent, but not so heavy that you feel uncomfortable.
  • You’ll still have energy to enjoy the session and move around comfortably.
  • It’s a great window to celebrate the joy of your pregnancy before the final stretch.

If you’re considering outdoor photos, like this session at Uplands Park, try to plan for the golden hour—just before sunset. The soft, golden light during this time is so flattering and adds a dreamy quality to the photos.

Preparing for Your Maternity Shoot

The couple in this session exemplified how thoughtful preparation makes all the difference. When choosing your outfit, aim for:

  • Colors that complement the environment. For autumn and winter shoots, light tones like cream, tan, or soft pastels work beautifully against darker, earthy backgrounds. For spring and summer shoots, think brighter colours and flowy fabrics.
  • Comfortable clothing that enhances your silhouette without restricting movement.

Cherishing the Moment

As a Victoria Maternity Photographer, I believe maternity photos are about more than just capturing a moment in time—they’re about celebrating the incredible journey of motherhood and the love that surrounds your new family member, before you’ve even met them. It’s so important to document this special chapter of your life, so that you’ll always have these photos to look back on with your loved ones (and one day, your little one)!

If you’re looking to capture your pregnancy with a warm and intimate photo session, I’d love to help you create something unforgettable ❤️
