Being invited to document a wedding proposal is always an honour, especially when it’s been thoughtfully planned from the very beginning. Tanveer reached out to me a few weeks before his trip to Victoria with a plan to propose to Gigi beside the ocean at Finlayson Point, right on Dallas Road Beach. He wanted the moment to feel natural and private, while still having it beautifully documented so they could remember it forever. Together, we planned the timing (for the best light!), location, and strategy so everything would feel effortless and genuine when the moment arrived.

Why Hire a Photographer for Your Wedding Proposal?

A proposal happens quickly — often in just a few seconds — and it’s filled with lots of emotion. The surprise, the laughter, the happy tears. Having a professional proposal photographer means you can stay fully present while knowing those memories are being preserved forever.

Many couples later tell me that the photos become some of their most meaningful images because nothing was posed or expected. It’s simply the two of you, exactly as you were in that moment.

For surprise proposals especially, planning ahead allows everything to feel seamless. I help guide proposers on:

  • Choosing a location with beautiful light and privacy (if that’s important to you)
  • Timing the proposal for the best conditions
  • Where I’ll stand so I remain discreet
  • What happens immediately after the proposal (celebration photos, portraits, a private moment, etc.)

The goal is always to keep the experience relaxed and natural ♥️

A Dallas Road Proposal at Finlayson Point

Finlayson Point is one of my favourite locations in Victoria for a wedding proposal. The open ocean views, rocky coastline, and soft evening light create a setting that feels both dramatic and peaceful — very West Coast, and very Victoria.

On the evening of Tanveeri’s proposal, the light was soft, with the ocean stretching out behind them. Tanveer led Gigi down toward the water, and when he dropped to one knee, her reaction said everything. Pure surprise, excitement, and joy.

After the proposal, we spent a little time walking along Dallas Road to Beacon Hill Park, taking relaxed engagement portraits while they soaked in the moment together. These photos always feel so emotionally charged.

Planning a Surprise Proposal in Victoria BC

If you’re thinking about proposing in Victoria, you’re already choosing one of the most beautiful places on Vancouver Island. Dallas Road, Beacon Hill Park, and the surrounding coastline offer incredible scenery year-round, and the natural landscape makes proposals feel natural rather than staged.

When someone planning to propose reaches out about proposal photography, I help with as much or as little planning as they’d like. Some already have a clear vision, while others just know they want the moment captured and need help choosing the right spot.

Common questions I help with include:

  • Where are the best proposal locations in Victoria BC?
  • What time of day has the best light?
  • How do we keep it a surprise?
  • What happens after the proposal?

Every proposal is different, but the goal is always the same – to make the experience feel easy and meaningful.
