If you’re just starting to plan your own Prospect Lake Community Hall wedding, you might be wondering what can be done with this blank canvas. Because on its own, it’s a simple, community-driven venue, but in the right hands? It can be completely transformed into something unforgettable!
Sara and Mike’s New Year’s Eve wedding is the perfect example of that 🥂
This day was deeply personal to both of them and one of the most creatively designed weddings I’ve had the chance to photograph. Every detail was intentional, every space thoughtfully built, and every moment full of meaning. This makes perfect sense, as these two are both part of Victoria’s amazing wedding industry community! Sara is the owner and visionary behind Function Design House, a local wedding and event planning company, while Mike is a co-owner of Mensch Catering. We met working at weddings together, and it was a true honour to be chosen to photograph their own perfect wedding day ❤️

One of the biggest reasons couples consider a Prospect Lake Community Hall wedding is flexibility. Sara and Mike took that to an entirely new level.
Rather than working with the hall’s existing look, they completely reimagined it.
Using rich red, black, and green velvet curtains, they created:
It didn’t feel like a community hall at all. It felt like stepping into an editorial, candlelit world. The space was warm, romantic, and a little bit theatrical in the best way.
This is the magic of this venue: it’s a blank canvas that allows for full creative control. If you can dream it, you can build it here!

Sara is the extraordinary talent behind Function Design House, a local wedding and event planning company. Her expertise was evident in every corner of this day.
From layout to lighting to flow, everything was considered:
If you’re planning your wedding and feeling overwhelmed, I can’t recommend working with a planner like Sara enough. Having someone who understands both the creative vision and the logistics makes all the difference.

There’s something incredibly special about a New Year’s Eve wedding. As the night unfolded, the energy shifted naturally from reflective to joyful – ending in a New Year’s celebration to end all others!

Sara and Mike incorporated some beautiful Jewish wedding traditions into their day, adding even more meaning to their celebration.
Some of the highlights included:

Mike is the Owner and General Manager of Mensch Catering – and yes, the food was just as incredible as you’d imagine!
The dining experience was thoughtfully curated, beautifully presented and a huge part of the guest experience.
If food is important to you on your wedding day (and it should be), Mensch Catering is one of the best options on Vancouver Island. It’s the kind of catering your guests will still be talking about long after your wedding.

If you’re considering a Prospect Lake Community Hall wedding, here’s what makes it such a strong option:
1. Total Creative Freedom
You’re not locked into a specific aesthetic. You can design the space exactly how you want.
2. Budget-Friendly Venue Option
Compared to many traditional venues, it allows you to allocate more of your budget toward design.
3. Ideal for Intimate Weddings
It’s perfect for smaller guest counts (up to 100 ish people) where you want a cozy, personal atmosphere.
4. Works Beautifully with the Right Vendor Team
As Sara and Mike showed, when you pair this space with talented vendors, it can rival high-end venues.

Sara and Mike’s wedding is proof that a Prospect Lake Community Hall wedding can be anything but ordinary.
With intention, creativity, and the right team, you can transform this space into something that feels completely your own – whether that’s moody and editorial like this day, or something entirely different.
If you’re planning your own wedding here, I’d love to help you bring it to life and document it in a way that feels natural, emotional, and true to you.
