Fort Common is one of the most unique and incredible wedding venues in Victoria BC. With its exposed brick, warm textures, and historic charm, it’s the kind of space that makes for a perfect wedding atmosphere. Morgan and Devon’s wedding day in this beautiful space was thoughtful, relaxed, and full of genuine connection.

From the moment the day began, it was clear this celebration wasn’t about performance or perfection. It was about presence. It was about laughter, comfort, and the kind of love that’s built slowly, intentionally, over time ♥️

Morgan + Devon’s Love Story

Morgan and Devon met nearly eight years ago on Bumble. Devon sent the first message after noticing Morgan played roller derby and appreciated a good Oxford comma. When Morgan arrived at their first date, Devon was immediately smitten. They talked so much that their server had to come back three separate times to take their order because they couldn’t stop chatting.

That sense of ease and humour has been at the heart of their relationship ever since.

Their engagement was beautifully on-brand: at home, in their bedroom, while on the phone with their parents. They had rings, they had a future trip planned – but in the quiet pause between calls, they looked at each other and decided there was no reason to wait. Morgan asked. Devon said yes. Devon asked. Morgan said yes 🥰

Why The Fort Common Was the Perfect Fit

Choosing Fort Common made so much sense for Morgan and Devon. The venue’s intimate scale and historic character offered the perfect blank canvas for crafting their perfect wedding day. Radhika from Rad Occasions helped them design and produce their vision, from long tables with simple flower arrangements, to glittering disco balls!

Fort Common’s layout allowed the day to unfold seamlessly, keeping guests connected and present rather than moving through rigid transitions. In order to change over the space from ceremony to reception seating, they encouraged guests to venture to a nearby bar for a cocktail in between.

As a photographer, Fort Common is a dream to work in. The light is beautiful, the textures are rich, and the space encourages creative design and personalization.

A Ceremony Full of Meaning

Morgan and Devon’s ceremony was officiated by Beth Carlson-Malena and felt deeply personal – full of warmth, humour, and intention. Surrounded by their closest people, they exchanged vows in a way that felt uniquely them.

There were quiet tears, bursts of laughter, and that unmistakable feeling of this is exactly where we’re meant to be. It was the kind of ceremony that doesn’t rush, doesn’t perform, and doesn’t try to be anything other than real.

Portraits Around Fort Common

One of the perks of a Fort Common wedding is its downtown Victoria location. We kept portraits simple and relaxed – walking around nearby the venue to make use of the brick walls, quiet streets, and soft natural light of downtown. We also visited some of their favourite shops downtown and either took photos outside, or inside if the owners were alright with that!

Morgan and Devon didn’t want to be away from their guests for long, so portraits felt more like a pause than a production. Those in-between moments – walking, laughing, connecting – became some of the most meaningful images from the day.

A Cozy, Joy-Filled Reception

As the evening settled in, Fort Common transformed into a warm, welcoming space for celebration. Tacos from Taco Revolution, drinks from Twist of Fate Cocktail Co., candlelight, heartfelt speeches, and a packed dance floor set the tone for a reception that felt like home.

There was no pressure to follow a strict timeline – just space to connect, laugh, and be together. DJ Sarah-Hannah kept the energy flowing!

The Vendor Team Behind the Day

One of the things that made this Fort Common wedding so special was the incredible team of people who brought it together:
