Maya and Nolan’s Gorge Pavilion wedding was everything you’d hope for from a summer celebration in Victoria BC—laid-back, heartfelt, and full of genuine joy. They tied the knot at the Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion, a bright and airy waterfront venue and recreation centre surrounded by lush greenery and scenic trails. This location is one of my favourite wedding venues on Vancouver Island. With their close friends and family gathered around and their puppy Kuma nearby, the day felt effortlessly personal.

A Love Story That Started on the Dance Floor 💃

These two first met on a club dance floor—Nolan made the bold move of grabbing Maya’s hand and pulling her into the crowd, and they danced the night away. They forgot to exchange numbers (classic!) but fate clearly had other plans. Maya tracked down his number through a mutual friend, and their first unofficial date was watching The Bachelor together. Fast forward six and a half years, and Nolan proposed in Quebec City’s Old Town during Christmas—a scene straight out of a Hallmark movie.

The Wedding Day

Their wedding at the Gorge Pavilion was simple, sweet, and full of meaningful moments. They brought so much personality to the day, from the stunning outdoor ceremony to the relaxed reception filled with laughter and love. You could feel the closeness not only between Maya and Nolan, but with their entire community. It was one of those weddings that reminds you why you do this work in the first place!

As a photographer, I loved how easygoing they were. They wanted to be present with their people and trust the process, which always results in the most honest and beautiful images. We snuck away for some sunset portraits by the water and under the tree canopy, and those ended up being some of my favourite photos of the whole day.

Why Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion is a Hidden Gem for Weddings

If you’re considering a Gorge Pavilion wedding, here’s why this venue is such a standout:

  • Affordable: It’s one of the most budget-friendly large venues in Greater Victoria, making it perfect for couples who want a beautiful setting without breaking the bank. For all event rentals you can rent just the upper floor or lower hall to save extra $$$!
  • Natural Beauty: The Pavilion is located inside Gorge Waterway Park, which features waterfront trails, leafy trees, and peaceful views. It has a large Japanese garden that is also ideal for wedding portraits.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Flexibility: The indoor space for the wedding reception is bright and neutral (easy to decorate!). The covered patio and nearby gardens give you options for ceremonies or mingling outdoors. Their boardrooms have great natural light for getting ready shots too.
  • Easy Access: Not far from downtown Victoria, it’s convenient for local and out-of-town guests alike.
  • Perfect for DIY or Intimate Weddings: Whether you’re hiring a planner or doing it all yourself, the Pavilion’s layout and charm make it incredibly versatile.
