If you’re looking for maternity photography in Victoria BC, you’re probably in a season that feels exciting, emotional, and maybe a little overwhelming too.

Pregnancy can pass by in such a blur. Even when the days feel long, this chapter is often over before you know it. That’s why maternity photos are so meaningful. They give you a way to remember not just how this time looked, but how it felt.

My approach to maternity photography is relaxed, natural, and connection-focused. No stiff posing and no pressure to perform. Just honest, beautiful images that feel like you ♥️

Why Maternity Photos Are Worth It

It’s easy to put maternity photos on the “maybe” list.

You might be thinking: “I don’t totally feel like myself right now”, “maybe I’ll just wait until the baby arrives”, or “do I really need these photos?”

Those feelings are so normal. But this season is so much more meaningful than it can seem in the moment.

Maternity photos are not just about documenting your bump. They’re about capturing the anticipation, the excitement, and the moments before everything changes. They hold onto this chapter in a way memory alone can’t.

Years from now, these photos will remind you of what life felt like before your baby arrived — the waiting, the love, and the excitement of becoming a parent!

My Approach to Maternity Photography

When families work with me, the goal is never to create perfectly posed images. I want your photos to feel natural, warm, and true to you.

Unscripted connection

I focus on the way you naturally interact. How you walk together, laugh, hold each other, or simply be present.

Soft, natural light

Victoria has the most beautiful photo light, especially in the evening. Golden hour is often my favourite time to photograph maternity sessions because it adds such a gentle, flattering glow.

Movement over stiff posing

You do not need to know how to pose! I’ll guide you in a way that feels easy and natural, so your photos look relaxed instead of forced.

Your environment matters

Whether we’re at the beach, in the forest, or in your home, the setting becomes part of the story. I always want your session to feel personal and connected to your life, so let’s discuss what that looks like beforehand.

The Best Maternity Photo Locations in Victoria BC

One of the best parts of planning maternity photos in Victoria is how many beautiful locations we have nearby. Whether you want something coastal, green and woodsy, or cozy at home, there are lots of great options.

Beaches and Oceanfront

If you love open skies and that West Coast feel, the beach is always a beautiful choice.

Some of my favourite spots include:

Forest and Nature Locations

If you’re drawn to greenery and want something calm and earthy, these locations are gorgeous year-round.

My go-to locations include:

In-Home Maternity Photos

In-home sessions are such a lovely option if you want something deeply personal and low-pressure.

They’re perfect if you want your photos to feel:

  • Cozy
  • Intimate
  • Relaxed
  • Weather-proof

They can be especially meaningful if you’re getting a nursery ready or simply want to document this season in the space where your family life is unfolding.

Pro Tip: For In-home sessions I recommend planning the photos in the late morning, for better natural light.

What to Wear for Maternity Photos

Outfits can make a big difference, but they do not need to be complicated.

I recommend:

  • Soft, neutral tones like cream, beige, earthy colours, or muted pastels
  • Flowy fabrics that move beautifully
  • Outfits that feel like you, just a little more elevated

For partners, I suggest keeping things simple and complementary. Avoid busy patterns, bright logos, or anything that pulls focus.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. When you feel good, it always shows in the photos.

When to Book Your Maternity Session

The best time for maternity photos is usually between 28 and 34 weeks.

At that point:

  • Your bump is nicely visible
  • You’re often still comfortable enough to move around
  • There’s still some flexibility for potential weather rescheduling before baby arrives

If possible, I recommend reaching out during your second trimester so we can plan ahead and choose a date that works best.

Can Partners, Kids, or Pets Be Included?

Absolutely!

Maternity sessions are about more than pregnancy alone. They’re about your growing family and this season of change.

Including the people you love usually makes the session feel even more meaningful and personal 🥰

What If You Don’t Feel Camera-Ready?

This is one of the most common things I hear, and truly, you are not alone.

Almost everyone says some version of, “I’m nervous” or “I don’t know how to pose.”

That is completely okay.

You do not need to show up knowing what to do. My job is to guide you through the session in a way that feels easy and natural. I’ll help create space for you to relax, connect, and simply be yourself/ yourselves.

That’s where the best photos happen ♥️
